Birmingham has become a destination for many to experience Muslim culture during Ramadan, the month of fasting. People gather for prayer in mosques, for food in the city’s many restaurants, connecting with family, friends and the wider community. I am excited to share that this year I have been working on an official 5 day event in the city -an intimate night market in Coventry Rd, Small Heath, which calls upon people of all faith and background to come together. Soul City Arts supported by Halal Food Festival Welcomes Ramadan Streets— a celebration of faith, food and culture.
From March 12th to the 16th, from dusk until midnight, next to Carpet World, an ordinary car park transforms into an extraordinary place of gathering. We create a family friendly space with a taste of the city’s culture you never knew existed. Walls overlooking the night market will also be illuminated with films I've been working on entitled Ramadan Diaries, an insight into community reflections on Ramadan. Ramadan Streets is supported by Birmingham City Council.
